From Defensive Rookie of the Year trophies to opposing quarterbacks, there wasn’t much that Chase Young’s ambition couldn’t reach during his debut season. Washington’s gameplan-wrecking defensive star didn’t waste time during a signature performance on Dec. 13, 2020, ending San Francisco’s drive with ferocity on a delayed blitz, followed by a smothering 3rd & 2 sack. The next few quarters offered just about everything else: takeaway-forcing tackles on the 49ers’ trick plays, and, miraculously, his own fumble recovery that opened the door for a 47-yard touchdown runback, his NFL career’s first-ever touchdown. Young’s do-it-all presence was unmissable in the Football Team’s 23-15 win, as confirmed through a box score that included: the scoop-and-score, one sack, six tackles, a TFL, two passes defended, and a forced fumble.
