It speaks volumes that even as the Patriots found themselves behind on Super Bowl LX’s scoreboard, the evening’s commentators openly made cases for Christian Gonzalez’s “best player on the field” credentials. Seattle dealt New England a 29-13 defeat on Feb. 8, 2026, but end results could’ve been much worse if not for a pair of touchdown-saving pass breakups from the Pro Bowl cornerback. Gonzalez laid everything out on the line — quite literally — on a PBU against Seattle’s downfield speedster before following it up by defending a could’ve-been score to the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year. Brilliance could be found on the box score, too, as Gonzalez allowed zero receptions across 22 coverage snaps, alongside three passes defended and four tackles.
