Battles between Tampa Bay’s Warren Sapp and Green Bay’s celebrated gunslinger were often noteworthy enough that when asked about it on Jan. 4, 1998, Sapp noted that they would be forever linked. And on an afternoon that offered Sapp three quarterback takedowns — including two strip sacks — could anyone suggest otherwise? Trading both highlights and “pleasantries” with the fellow future Hall of Famer standing opposite, Sapp routinely broke loose wrecking the Packers’ plans with defensive play after play. The Buccaneers would fall in a 21-7 result, but in a precursor of what the next half-decade would entail, Sapp’s postseason form became unblockable, as he paired the three-sack, two-fumble-forcing afternoon with seven tackles and a fumble recovery.
