(Feb 1, 2004 · Week 20)
Long before he stood the sidelines, guiding New England to Super Bowl appearances as a head coach, Mike Vrabel stood on the line of scrimmage, doing whatever it took to guide championship-winning seasons as a Pro Bowl player. Versatile, positionless play calls became a common theme in the Patriots’ dynastic reign, and during Super Bowl XXXVIII, they again subscribed, putting Vrabel — a linebacker — on the offensive goal line for a go-ahead one-yard touchdown catch. Feb. 1, 2004’s fireworks show saw them go play-for-play with the Carolina Panthers, but, as is often the case, the Pats’ crunchtime execution won out in a 32-29 victory. Vrabel’s do-it-all contribution came in the form of the one-yard scoring grab, alongside two sacks, six tackles, a TFL, and a forced fumble.
