On montages that chronicle Super Bowl history’s greatest moments, it often takes only a few seconds before Eli Manning’s incredible escape — and the famously-nicknamed “Helmet Catch” — make appearances. With 75 seconds separating the Patriots from the NFL’s first-ever, 19-0 undefeated season, Manning became as “giant” as one human could, simply refusing to fold amidst the slew of 300-pound pass rushers clinging to his torso. Describing it later as seeing “a white jersey in the middle of the field,” Manning offered his receiver a shot at football immortality, and he delivered, pinning a football to his literal head for a 32-yarder. Seconds later, Manning officially conquered New England, rainbowing a left-corner lob that helped secure New York’s 17-14 win on Feb. 3, 2008. Authoring, perhaps, football’s greatest upset win, Manning took Most Valuable Player honors through a 255-yard finish (on 19-of-34) and two touchdowns.
