(Nov 4, 2001 · Week 8)
Though he wouldn't be named the Chargers starter at quarterback until the following season, Drew Brees did get meaningful action in one game in his rookie year of 2001, and with that opportunity he showcased a glimpse of the stellar career that was to come. With just over six minutes left on the clock in the game, and San Diego trailing by six points, Brees dropped back to pass, faked the handoff, and then fired a rocket over the middle that found his man in the front of the end zone for a 20-yard score that gave the Chargers the lead after the ensuing extra point, marking the first touchdown pass of his NFL career. Brees tallied 221 yards and one scoring toss in this one, but the Chargers would fall late, losing to the Chiefs, 25-20, on Nov. 4, 2001.
