After finishing 2001’s season with the NFL’s most points allowed, the time for Indianapolis’ defense to attempt a “full 180” had arrived; fortunately for them, the 2002 NFL Draft’s No. 11 spot presented exactly what was needed. Master of both spins and the ability to flip a game’s trajectory in a moment’s notice, Dwight Freeney showcased the latter against the Eagles, invading the backfield to turn Philadelphia’s end-around into an endgame through a forced fumble and 15-yard loss. Certain to acquaint himself with Philly’s Pro Bowl quarterback at some point, Freeney dedicated the rest of Nov. 10, 2002’s fumble-forcing afternoon to accomplishing just that, halting his progress on two more possession-changing takeaways. Superb in the Colts’ 35-13 win, Freeney concluded with six tackles, one sack, and three forced fumbles.
